If you have ever been a fan of either one of these people, this cd will make you a fan of both. Emmylou wrote two.
It is a wonderful cd and leaves me hoping that they team up again.All the Roadrunning Mark is up to his usual standards of exelence on both the lyrics and the music.
Every cut is a winner. For whatever reason you pick up this cd, it will leave you looking for more by each of these artists.
Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler, two great people that sound great together. Mark Knopfler wrote most of the songs for this cd.
Emmylou Harris's songs are also beyond reproach.
I'll be first in line when and if these two put together another collection. My personal favorites are Beachcombing; Love and Happiness; Belle Starr; and, If This Is Goodbye, though there is not a bad song to be found. Both have soft, soothing voices which harmonize beautifully in this collection of sentimental songs with a few upbeat, catchy tunes thrown in for good measure. I have no idea why the negative reviewers found the whole thing depressing. When two different genres of music collide, the results can go either way. In this case Emmylou Harris, whose sweet comforting voice has long been a favorite of mine and Mark Knopfler, whom I remember fondly from that mostly terrible decade of music, the 1980's, have collided and this wonderful music is the result. Very relaxing and even inspirational.
Mark flavors each song with his peerless guitar work and folksy voice, while Emmylou enhances the vocals with her wonderful interpretations. Each number uniquely shows the talents of Mark and Emmylou. It is interesting to hear both musicians exploring their folk roots, after joining up from such diverse musical polarities.
We never get tired of listening to his music and it is amazing how many fans he has out there. Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest songwriters and guitarists ever. This is another great album and one of our favorites and Emmy Lou Harris complimented the songs.
These two make good music sharing fun-loving and thoughtful moments. It is a delight. Love and Happiness is a gem. Brothers in Arms is wonderful to hear no matter what the day or mood. These people are poets. The lyrics paint scenes and stories vividly so I was glad they have been included with the CD.
If This is Goodbye is touching. Mark Knopfler is a favorite of mine. It was an easy decision to give a listen to this pairing of MK and Emmylou Harris. You know the time has come for the guy to move on from Donkey Town - how many guys have been there.
